FAQ

Below you will find our most commonly asked questions

Does Spectrum teach Spanish from Spain or Latin America?

Our teachers can teach a variety of dialects and are able to focus on different countries of the Spanish-speaking world. Differences in pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar usage can arise when traveling between countries but by using standardized Spanish, it should not hinder your experience. Students strictly interested in a particular region can advise Spectrum Spanish upon contact.

How long does it take to learn Spanish?

It is important to understand that the length of time it takes to learn any language depends on the amount of focused time spent practicing. Similar to sports or learning an instrument, language learning takes plenty of dedication. Spectrum Spanish suggests studying for at least 20 minutes every day and inundating your world with Spanish alterations and enhancements. With your dedication, we aim to have you ready for your next vacation in one year. In two years, you should have a solid grasp and be able to communicate orally in an effective manner. Four years is the common time frame given to those who wish to have a strong command of Spanish and be able to discuss a diverse range of topics in all of the Spanish tenses.

Can my teacher come to my house or office?

This depends on your desired location and may affect the posted prices. We encourage all students to come to Spectrum Spanish Tutoring, conveniently located off the expressway. However, exceptions may be made.

Can I be accommodated and if not, do I get my money back for the lesson?

Dates for lessons can be on a different day and time each week but still chosen by the student a month in advance. Cancellations are not refunded.
See Policy.

Our Policy

Lesson Payment
All lessons must be pre-paid for the month by the beginning of the first class by cash, cheque or preferably, e-transfer. For the second and consecutive months, pre-payment is due on the last paid class of the previous month. Lump payments for three consecutive months receive a 10% discount.

Student Absences
By the end of their first lesson, students choose their specific weekly time slot, either for the same day and time each week or different. Similar to other extra-curricular activities, missed lessons will unfortunately not be refunded, regardless of reason. Nor will they be rescheduled without a fee for the added lesson. Try to choose times in which you feel confident. Your monthly payment reserves an exclusive weekly time in the teacher’s schedule. Spectrum cannot resell this time nor create extra free teaching time in which to give lessons. Spectrum deals in monthly increments to allow for changes in student schedules and to give them the chance to choose new times.

Teacher Absences
Keeping the comfort and relationship with your chosen teacher in mind, a teacher cancellation will likely lead to a substitute teacher for that lesson. If this is not possible, we will try our best to make up the lesson at a mutually convenient time. Under rare and unavoidable conditions, if the teacher or substitute is not available to deliver the lesson, a free class will be added to the following month. Please provide full contact information so you can be reached in the case of a pending teacher absence.
